1. Fold each licorice piece in half and push ends through centers of 12 miniature marshmallows. Set aside.
2. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add 10 ounces marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat. Add KELLOGG’S RICE KRISPIES cereal. Stir until well coated.
3. Using 1/2-cup measuring cup coated with cooking spray divide warm cereal mixture into 12 portions. Using buttered hands shape each portion into ornament shape around licorice ends. Cool. Decorate with frosting and M&M'S® brand chocolate candies. Best if served the same day.
MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS: In microwave-safe bowl heat butter and marshmallows on HIGH for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Follow steps 2 through 3 above. Microwave cooking times may vary.
Note:
For best results, use fresh marshmallows.
Diet, reduced calorie or tub margarine is not recommended.
Store no more than two days at room temperature in airtight container.

comments-6989. These are easy and fun to make. I was unable to find the string licorice in my area so I substituted small candy canes for my ornament "hooks."

Dip the loop end in the glass of water then push the loop through the middle of the marshmallow. Lay aside to dry. Make the rice krispie treats and divide into 12 portions. With hands lightly buttered, form each portion into a tight ball. Let set a few minutes then pull open each ball down the side just enough to get the licorice in the middle of the ball. Then form back into ball. This worked for me!

comments-7047. Our family loves Rice Krispie Treats so I thought we'd make these for our holiday party. Everyone had trouble putting the licorice through the tiny marshmallow and I thought maybe next time we'd put the marshmallows in the fridge before trying to poke holes in them. It was a very messy project, but even though the ornaments all looked pretty sad, everyone enjoyed eating them all.

comments-7049. Tried making these 5 times tonight and wasted alot of Rice Krispies and marshmellows. They will not stay together in a round shaped ball.

comments-7052. It really makes me wonder if Kellogs even tries these recipes before they put them out for the public to try and fail. This does not work.

comments-7025. Tried these tonight and couldn't get the licorice to go through no mini marshmallow!!! I don't know how you people did it but I sure is heck couldn't!!! Any tips on how to do that? I mean a marshmallow is soft and fluffy and the licorice is hard and not shaped pointy at the end like I knife so I pushed and pushed and just tore the marsh up and then it broke, then the stuff wouldn't form into the ornament it was all a hot mess for this recipe, had butter on hands to and it just made it more of a mess!

comments-6984. I was very happy that this really cute version of Rice Krispie treats pictured in an ad led me right to where I can see the recipe. This morning, I saw a Rice Krispie Treat recipe that had a chocolate topping on Facebook and clicked on the link and it took me to the Kellogg's website, which is very impressive. However, there were over 100 recipes given just for Rice Krispie Treats and none of them were what I was looking for...:( I used the search engine with every combination of words I could think of and got no results. I ended up looking for them with the Bing Search engine and found some home cook's recipe that was lacking in many ways...did not tell me how to make the chocolate topping. I ended up making up my own recipe...not my first rodeo, but gee, that should NOT have been so hard!!

comments-197011354486114924. The tree trimmer treats is a really cute idea. I thought I would make some for my grandchildren for Christmas. After going to eight different places to find the licorice laces however, I came to the conclusion that you can't buy them in Little Rock, Arkansas. So I guess I will be returning the Rice Krispies for a refund.
