One tip I learned from her to help spread the rice krispie mixture into the dish is to wet the back of your spoon with some cold water. The mix does not stcik to the back of your spoon and makes quick work of getting it spread. Thanks Mom!

comments-2946. after reading all the reviews and tips, thought i'd add one that i didn't see. my mom used to put cut up marachino cherries into the mixture, or sometimes just on top as decoration during holiday time. tastes good and brightens them up. to those that can't have the marshmallows cause of the pork geletin, you can use the marshmallow creme in the jar as a substitute, it is made with cornstarch instead.:) going to go show my daughter now how to make for the first time.

comments-3128. I just made Halloween rice krispie treats by adding a box of orange jello (for added flavor) to the melted marshmallow mix and a little orange food coloring. I made them before using orange kool-aid, but they tasted a little funny (sour). I also used my Pampered Chef large scoop, generously sprayed with cooking spray!, to make them into cute little pumpkin shapes. It really does make a huge difference in stickiness if you can remember to butter/grease the walls of the pan you melt the marshmallows in BEFORE you add the marshmallows. And I also highly recommend a silicon rubber scraper for stirring, spooning and smashing the mix. I never was able to keep my wooden spoon slick enough to not get all gummed up while working with the marshmallow mix.

We have made peguins, mittens, snowmen, farm animals... We then decorate with chocolate chips or sprinkles and sometimes frosting.

I do them in the microwave but I use Crisco instead of butter (I like the butter flavored Crisco best ) They don't get soggy like they do with butter and they stay fresh longer! Yum-o!

comments-2304. Years ago when I was a kid they made rice krispies that has little marshmellows in them (like the ones in "Lucky Charms") and my mom used to make rice krispie treats with them, I've been wanting them since, I recently went to an Amish Farmers Market and they sold bags of marshmellows from cereal (like the ones in "Lucky Charms") so I bought them and made marshmellow rice krispies treats, you don't melt the cereal marshmellows I used a cup of them and only 5 cups of rice krispies...Talk about reliving my childhood, only if mom made them instead. LOL!

My favorite mix-in is butterscotch chips - my grandmother taught me that. They give the rice krispie treats something special, and are just really yummy!

comments-2482. For sticky spoon problems use a SILICONE spoon or spatula for removing marshmallow creme out of the jar. Use the same spatula for mixing ingredients in the bowl when using the microwave for the recipe. The warm mixture removes most of the marshmallow creme from the spatula. No spraying and little mess. Silicone spoons and spatulas are dishwasher safe. I use a dinner fork to even the mixture in the pan. It does not stick and provides an easy way to smooth out the mixture evenly and even compacts the mixture. I use KRAFT marshmallow creme since we had a mess melting the marshmallows. They were old. The marshmallow creme lasts longer. It is always convenient to use and easy to have in the cupboard. Silicone spoons and spatulas are dishwasher safe and easy to wash in the machine. Just remember to recycle the container.

comments-1781. I'm 67 years old and my favorite Christmas memory is when my grandmother would send a big box of presents (she was in Oklahoma and we were in California) with admonitions "not to open until Christmas." However, her Rice Krispy treats were marked, "open now." Even though both my parents were local bakers, my grandma's treats were the best of all! I now plan to make them with my two year old grandson. Thanks for the memories.

We do a twist on the recipe now, though, that makes them even yummier! I add 2 tablespoons of smooth peanut butter in the butter/marshmallow mixture and then stir in the cereal. Sometimes I also stir in chopped walnuts and drizzle the top with melted chocolate chips for an extra special treat. We have tried M&M's, sprinkles and all kinds of stir-in's...the possibilities are endless! :o)

Add gummy fish for a layer -- a little cocoa powder or cupcake sprinkles for sand; chocolate chips for pebbles; coconut for brush; maraschino cherries for bolders and the marshmallo as the silt/ Then build in layers in a pan so students can see the layers

(A whole bag is WAY too much chocolate) Also instead of pushing them down into a cake pan, I make scoop fuls and let them set on waxed paper. They stay gooyer, gooier, gooieer ha ha??!! Good Luck and enjoy! MMmmmm

We had a contest to see who could make the most tasteful and beautiful Rk. We decorated ours with balloons (skittles) party hats (frosting & alot of candy) and Kristen made (on hers) herself out of gummy stuff like fruit by the foot fruit roll ups and stickers. We won the contest!

I used a 1lb bag of mini's and a full box for Chocolate Rice Krispies. My kids had been begging me to make these as the start of the candy and goodies making next two weeks. All in all they were very easy to prepare. My hubby was the strong arm and mixed them while I held onto the HOT bowl. I have always loved these treats and I am happy to be able to bring them to my family. We recently found that we are celiacs (allergic to Gluten). We are happy to know that Rice flour contains no gluten and is used in many foods such as pastas, breads and cereals (yay). Thank you Kellogg's!!

This is a treat that my sons looked forward to when they came home from school every day. It was this or the tray of fruits I would cut up for them to eat while they were doing their homework. I also remember getting these when I was a little girl growing up in GA. My grandmo made them for all the grandchildern.

I buttered/greased my hands, spoon, spatula, and pan... my husband assisted me and commented that he now knows how Frodo felt when caught in the web, lol! It was difficult to keep the mixture together and well-mixed; other than that the recipe is easy to remember and doesn't require much equipment :)

My tip is that when I dump them in a pan I take a couple of baggies and put them on my hands, I spread them with butter, and use that to pack them in the pan. Then just throw away the baggies. Usually use large sandwich, or quart size.

The corn starch helps to maintain a steady blood glucose level to prevent a low blood sugar over night - great for her guide camp sleepover tonight. Does anyone know this recipe?

And when a have done the figures i decorate all with diferent colors of candy melts and chocolate, there going to taste even better.

comments-6398. Hi my name is Sarina. I am 22 years old. Today is my first time making rice krispies. I have always loved them. My mom is having a little 4th of July party and i thought that rice kripies are our family's favorite so I am making the originals and chocolate rice krispies. I have made the originals first they turned out great. I used a wooden spoon and a metal pain. Yes they got really sticky. But my older sister showed me a trick a while back when i used to mess up pans and pot real bad. Fill pot/pan with hot water and put some soap in there. Put you spoon in the pan/pot and stick on burner. Let it boil for 10-20min and all is good. If you do what i am doing making 2 different batches that will give you enough time to get the next batch ready and clean up from the first. For the chocolate recipe instead of using regular marshmallows i am using chocomallows from jet-puffed. Hope they turn out as good as the originals did:)

comments-6399. Well I thought I update from my post earlier. The chocolate rice krispies came out great as well as the originals. When sticking it into the pan it seem a lot more sticker then the originals. I forgot to mention earlier instead of using butter/pam or anything for the pan that I laid out the rice krispies to cool in I took a piece of Reynolds wrap and laid it on the pan so that it covered the sides and bottom. When it was cool I had pieces of reynolds wrap hanging over the side so it made it easier to pull out of the pan and i carefully cut it into squares and stuck them in the refrigerator until later. Hope you find it as easy as I did. :)

The marshmellows didn't really melt they became a small blob instead of creamy and they wouldn't melt... they taste like crispy chewing gum.... can anyone tell me what we are doing wrong? We used a whole bag of big marshmellows and used the stove... after that didn't work we used the microwave... we need help ASAP! Thanks, ya'll. If you can make these then you are very lucky! lol

Like at Xmas we do peppermint, Valentines day we add Cinnimon, Easter we do Strawberry, Orange, and Bananna, flavoring and they are always a hit!

I line the pan, leaving extra to fold over the top so I can just press the paper down. My hands stay clean and the squares come out wonderful.

I highly recommend this to all RK treat lovers. My kids, neighbors, friends, and anyone sitting next to me while I eat them all want some. I can't sneak them anywhere. I have to make 2-3 batches each time or there are never enough to go around. As it is there is always a few people not happy they missed out. Seriously, TRY THEM!!!!!

If you have a silicone spatula you can use it to stir the melting marshmallows and to press the treats into the 9 x 13. Silicone won't melt easily and doesn't stick to the marshmallow like metal or wooden spoons.

These get rave reviews every time I make them! (the same mix of cereals are good just to eat as a cereal party mix, too, for slumber parties and the like!)

Add the food coloring BEFORE you add the Rice Krispies. My son says they are delicious. We can't buy the store shelf ready made because he is allergic to milk products, but these are dairy free!

comments-16051354415479921. I have made these over the years and I got a really good deal on marshmallows the other day however after two days of being open they turned into one big clump soo I thought that I would use them to make these . I love the homemade treats better than the boxed ones at the store . i don't mind them but they just don't taste the same . home made is best made I think . thank you for this classic recipe that I can make and maybe be able to capture being a kid again for a while :)

comments-16051360777432018. NOT the original recipe I remember from the box for Rice Crispy Squares. It also had vanilla in it and at least 1/4 cup of butter or margarine. I'd like to try the "original" recipe shown here on the website, but just not sure it will make up the recipe like I am used to it being made.

comments-1868. HELP - my daughter is diabetic and I have lost my Rice Krispie marshmallow square recipe. This recipe contains corn starch - I can't recall the amount. The corn starch helps to maintain a steady blood glucose level to prevent a low blood sugar over night - great for her guide camp sleepover tonight. Does anyone know this recipe?
